Art for Visiting Catskill Octagon House
Marie Catalano's Exhibition "Peculiar Manufactures" is not to be missed
I crammed too many works into this newsletter so I must keep my introduction very short and sweet. The TLDR is my friend Marie Catalano curated a sensational exhibition, Peculiar Manufactures, and the New York Times mentioned it in “New York’s Best Summer Art Shows Are Upstate” article! You will see below many of my favorite artists were included in the exhibition. I hope you delight in these discoveries and try your very, very best to see these works in person. Enjoy!
From the press release:
“‘Peculiar Manufactures’, organized by Marie Catalano for Upstate Art Weekend 2025, reimagines the Historic Catskill Octagon House through the lens of a 17th-century Kunstkammer. This varied group exhibition features a selection of makers engaging with craft and trades, the gaze and politics of display, ritual, material affect, oblique talismans, and charged domestic objects. The show takes its title from a 17th-century description of one such collection, characterized as housing “peculiar manufactures of Art.”
